Capitol reporters analyze election results

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The 2024 Election ended with Donald Trump being elected for a second time and a shift in New York's state legislature.

The 2024 presidential race saw Donald Trump win the national vote while also increasing Republican influence in the state. While Harris ultimately won the state 55% to 44%, votes for the Republican candidate increased from their total of 37% in 2020.

In the New York legislature, the balance of power shifted to favor Democrats, maintaining a supermajority in the State Assembly. In the State Senate, Democrats missed winning a supermajority by one seat.

This week on Empire State Weekly, David Lombardo, the Host of WCNY's "The Capitol Pressroom", Bill Mahoney, a reporter with Politico, and Keisha Cluckey, a reporter with Newsday, all discussed what the election could mean for New York looking ahead to 2025.
