GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Glens Falls Common Council member has announced she will be running for the mayor of Glens Falls. Diana Palmer has been on the common council for seven years and represents the 3rd Ward.

She said in her candidacy announcement, in part, "I believe government works best with the people, not just for them. Our city’s growth, vibrant events, and unique character are powered by business leaders, volunteers, investors, and advocates. Government should be a partner—supporting and empowering those who build, restore, and invest in Glens Falls."

Her opponent will be incumbent Mayor Bill Collins. He announced his run for re-election in December. He's been in office since 2022. With the news of Palmer running, Collins gave this statement to NEWS10.

I welcome Council Member Palmer to the race for mayor," said Collins. "Democracy works best when the voters have a choice. And they will have a very clear choice here.  I am the first mayor in 22 years to have delivered a city budget with a zero tax increase. Council Member Palmer voted against the budget. She was the only member of the common council to do so. She favored taking more money from our city taxpayers than was necessary to run city government. I look forward to sharing my vision and plans to continue moving Glens Falls forward in the coming years.
