ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Former president Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 felony counts in his criminal trial. It's the first time a former U.S. president was ever tried or convicted in a criminal case and the first of Trump's four indictments to reach trial.

Trump faced 34 counts based on the allegation that he falsified records to conceal unlawfully interfering in the 2016 presidential election through $130,000 in a hush money payment.

The jury deliberated for about 10 hours before reaching their verdict. Sentencing is expected on July 11, which is four days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

The guilty verdict comes as the former president is campaigning for president in the 2024 election. He is currently the Republican party's presumptive nominee.

For more on the potential impact the verdict will have on his re-election bid, NEWS10 spoke with Dr. Len Cutler, the Chair of the Political Science Department at Siena College.
