PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) -- Vice President Kamala Harris made a campaign visit to Pittsfield in July that cost the city just over $50,000.
City officials said more than half the costs were incurred by the police department. Police had to close roads and manage large crowds.
Harris held a fundraiser at the Colonial Theater on July 27, less than a week after Pres. Joe Biden ended his re-election bid and endorsed Harris.
The city said the total cost of her visit was $50,311.79. The breakdown of costs is as follows:
- Pittsfield Police Department: $28,000
- Pittsfield Fire Department: $5,788.96
- Department of Public Services: $16,522.83
The mayor's office said he has reached out to the Harris Campaign and the Democratic National Committee for reimbursement.
