ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Early voting is about to begin for the June 25th primary. One of the biggest races in the Capital Region is for Albany County District Attorney.

Incumbent David Soares is being challenged by fellow democrat and defense attorney Lee Kindlon. The race has created a divide between area democrats.

Soares is seeking his sixth term. He says he's running because he feels recent legislation on the state level, such as bail reform, has eroded the tools his office has used to manage crime and improve public safety.

"The fact that we no longer have these tools is simply outrageous," said Soares. He adds, "the fact that here we are in the Capital District, the seat of our state government, I do believe that I have a much more credible voice on the subjects."

Soares sat down with News10 ABC to discuss the issues facing Albany County's District Attorney's office.
