ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Every state Assembly and Senate seat is up for grabs this election year and the race for those offices begin with the June 25th primary.
There are two democrats in the Assembly's 107th district trying to move-on to the November general election. One of them is Kent Sopris. He wants to tackle an issue many in his district are feeling, poverty.
"We have a 15% child poverty rate in this district based on a recent comptroller's report," said Sopris. He added, "and if you look at the numbers, the number of people who are struggling is more than 15%."
Sopris says prices for almost everything keep going up. "If I'm elected, one of the things I'm going to do is advocate for working families to make sure the costs don't trickle down to them," said Sopris.
Sopris sat down with News10 to discuss the issues facing the 107th district.
