ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - New York's June 25th primary is nearing and candidates in one local State Assembly race are gearing up for quite the battle. Six democrats are trying to replace Pat Fahy, who's running for State Senate.

One of those candidates is Albany Common Council Member Gabriella Romero. She's an attorney in the public defender's office making sure people with little to no criminal background have access to programs and treatment.

One of Romero's biggest issues she wants to tackle is affordability. She says many can't afford to live in New York. Her campaign would address, "the affordability crisis through common sense things like universal child care, making sure parents are able to go back to work once they have kids, they don't have to choose, you're forced to stay home because you can't afford child care and then you're losing income and you're caring for a child which is expensive."

Romero sat down with NEWS10 to discuss the issues facing the district.
